Fresh new Queen Jane Seymour
- asking if Cromwell would like to kiss her hand...or... something..? Is this what I'm supposed to say as Queen? Is this what you're supposed to do?
- overcome with puzzlement and discomfort about Mary referring to her as her mother because that can't be possible, there's only 7 years between them, darling husband Henry I don't understand let me whisper shyly for your advice.
- waiting for Mary to leave the room first even though she has seniority.
Every time Jane behaved like a scared simpleton who's only just learnt that shoes go on your feet, it's in front of people. Her court. The King and his court. She makes a show of being so much less than what she is. She's spent her life around nobles and royalty and the court. She knows the rules inside out. Pretending that she doesn't is her survival tactic.

Sad that the tv show has changed this into an interview with Henry where Henry talks of Jane's "Maidenly pudere" which makes Crom physically cringe and I wonder if it's jealousy and for whom or just that "kill me now" thousand yard stare coming on that Crom acquires in the "Putting the King to bed" scene in Season One. We don't get the wildly awkward/suggestive scene with Jane, instead a more straightforwardly flirtatious Jane strokes Cromwell's fur (I am reminded of Cromwell stroking Mary's fur trim in the garden in the book...sorry once a crom/mary shipper always a crom/mary shipper...) and makes the suggestion, "do you want to kiss my ring or anything..." which seems inappropriate but Jane is so guileless that no one calls her on it and then in the next scene where Cromwell takes her through a darkened hallway into the light of Henry's love, the sound goes all Hurt Locker for a second while Henry and Jane kiss and Rafe has to prompt Crom to clap...
What just happened??? OMG...
The unmatched level of UNHINGED that is that part of The Mirror and the Light, where somehow it's Master Cromwell who has to hear about Jane's weird wedding night, and she totally trolls them all with that "he wants me to do unnatural things that won't get me a child" and her brothers FLEE the scene and then she's like "he wants me to go to visit fortifications down south" and you are not sure if that's code for something or literal request for her to go visit the fortifications like he's always asking Cromwell to do...

Mark Rylance as Thomas Cromwell in WOLF HALL (2015)
"I hazard that when Cromwell’s household heard of his arrest in June 1540, they began a systematic process of destroying the out - tray of his principal archive, much aided by the fact that two of his own officers were left in charge of it for least another year. Their hope would have been to save their master from destruction, for a man is much more easily convicted by his own writings than by the letters he has received. The royal confiscation team would not initially have noticed the character of the huge quantities of papers deferentially presented for their inspection when they arrived at the door. 2 It was a good try, although it did not succeed. The result is that amid the torrent of paperwork through which the conscientious biographer wades to recapture what is left of Thomas Cromwell, the man’s own voice is largely missing. We hear more of it out of Lord Lisle’s papers than in Cromwell’s own. Hilary Mantel has sensitively captured this quality in Thomas Cromwell’s archive in her novels: her Cromwell is pre - eminently an observer, even of himself, not ‘I’ but ‘he’." — MacCulloch, D. (2018). Thomas Cromwell: a life. Allen Lane, an imprint of Penguin Books, [London]
